Abstract
In this thesis I have set out to answer the following question: “Is the Church an underestimated and overlooked resource in our nation’s mental health crisis?” I will do this by looking at three current realities the Church faces when it comes to building itself as a resource. I will then review three theological challenges that hinder the Churches efforts in building a faithful mental health theology. I will conclude by reviewing our hermeneutical approach to mental illness within scripture in hopes to better develop the way people see themselves and the way we see others within the text.
