In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable," Dwight D. Eisenhower said that during World War II. This quote is appropriate because strategic leadership in business is a lot like strategic leadership in war. Eisenhower understood that when in the trenches that the plans that one makes are typically rendered useless, however he also understood that the planning that takes place before the battle is usually what ends up winning or losing the battle. Strategic planning has been used for centuries in war and has made for some very successful Generals and leaders like Eisenhower. Like in war strategic relationship is crucial in the life of business, both for non-profit and for-profit companies. The ability to plan coming quarters, years, and multiple years down to specific strategies that will produce positivity, profitability, and higher production is key in a lucrative global economy that is ever changing. Strategic leadership is the essential component to the success of an organization because it brings out the companies [sic] values, mission, vision, and strategy.
