Abstract

This half-day seminar was designed to ignite a fire within individuals as they build the needed skills required to become transformational leaders. It focused heavily on the Four I’s that characterize transformational leadership. Bernard Bass developed the Four I’s of transformational leadership: Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Individualized Consideration, and Intellectual Stimulation (Bass, 1985).  The seminar included breakout sessions, small groups, and a PowerPoint presentation. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Suncoast hosted the seminar at its corporate office. The project theme focused on Transformational Leadership. Participants learned how to apply transformational leadership in the workplace, personal relationships, and mentorship. Through transformational leadership, participants learned new theory and real-world examples to help them apply this leadership style.

Through this seminar, participants gained new knowledge, and the project contributed strongly to the field of leadership. Attendees gained an understanding of transformational leadership and how to apply it to their leadership style. The seminar also covered transactional leadership and how the two styles operate differently. Attendees left the seminar with a better understanding of their leadership tendencies and the areas they need to improve to make a transformational impact. Breakout sessions and reflections on how transformational leadership has affected participants' lives highlighted real-world implications. The presentation included clear discussions throughout, with attendees explaining how this material will help them become better leaders and mentors. Overall, this capstone project can help individuals who mentor youth, lead teams, or want to become better transformational leaders.
